Busck worm gears, gearboxes and geared motors

Worm gears are a simple type of gear where the input shaft is a steel screw that screws onto a bronze wheel. A worm gear is always an angular gear - the output shaft goes across the input shaft. The gear ratio is normally between 1:5 and 1:100. It is possible to combine two worm gears into a double worm gear. The ratio can then be very high.

Gears are single or multi-stage gears with two gears in each stage. Gears are available as straight, bevel and spur gears. A gear stage normally does not shift down more than about 6-7 times. A two-stage gear then has a maximum ratio of around 1:50 and a three-stage gear around 1:350.

Busck worm gear

The Busck worm gear unit is an extremely affordable worm gear unit for normal operating conditions. The gear housings in sizes SB025-SB090 are made of aluminum and SB110-SB150 have cast iron gear housings. SB040, 050, 063 and 090 are normally in stock also with stainless steel hollow shaft and food grade oil. Dimensions are according to market standard. Gear ratio 1:5 and above.

There is also a large selection of accessories such as flanges, torque arm, single and double shafts. Normally from stock. For larger quantities, delivery time is approximately twelve weeks.

The Busck CMG gearbox is a very affordable gearbox.

Thanks to the fact that the feet and flanges are screwed into the gear housing, it is easy to customize the gear to your liking. Gear housing and motor flange are made of die-cast aluminum. Foot and output flange are made of cast iron. The gears are ground for quiet and smooth running. The gears are lifetime lubricated on delivery.

Busck aluminum spur gears are filled with VG 320 synthetic oil. The same amount of oil applies to all arrangements (mounting methods).

Variator type VB is available in three sizes for motor sizes 63, 71 and 80. Compared to a frequency control, the variator has the advantage that the torque increases when the speed is reduced. The variator is normally connected to a worm gear to obtain the desired speed range.

A variator should be started up carefully and run in. Do not load with maximum load to start with. The speed of the variator may only be adjusted when the variator is spinning.

Busck small gear motors are affordable.

Dimensions are according to market standards. The geared motors are available in sizes 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 with a power from 6 up to 200 W.
The 1-phase motors we stock have thermal protection in series with the winding as standard.

  • All shafts in the gearbox are ball-bearing mounted
  • Up to 10 Nm in torque
  • Gear ratio 3-250:1
  • Sizes 3, 4 and 5 are kept in stock.

Motor 5IK60 is with cooling fan, other sizes without cooling fan. The motor designations stand for the following:

  • C=1-phase 230 V
  • S=3×400 V
  • U=3×230 / 400 V

The Busck bevel gearbox type CMB is fully interchangeable with the Busck worm gearbox type SB. Unlike a worm gear, with this gear you get an excellent efficiency. This means that you can sometimes go down a motor size but still get the same torque on the output shaft / hollow shaft. The maximum torque that the gear can handle is also higher than for the corresponding worm gear. The difference increases with increasing gear ratio.

Comparison of, for example, SB063 with CMB0633 at gear ratio 80 and service factor 1 shows that the spur gear can handle 250 Nm while the worm gear can handle 122 Nm. The gears are lifetime lubricated with fully synthetic oil (viscosity VG 320) on delivery. Smaller numbers normally from stock of CMB402, CMB502, CMB603 and CMB903.
