Worm Gearbox s are a simple type of gearbox in which the input shaft is a steel screw that threads into a bronze wheel. A is always an angular gearbox—the output shaft runs perpendicular to the input shaft. The gear ratio typically ranges from 1:5 to 1:100. It is possible to connect two worm gears to form a double-worm gear. In that case, the gear ratio can become very high. The efficiency is typically low. The bronze wheel slides on the screw with relatively high friction. Efficiency decreases as the gear ratio increases. A lower input speed also reduces efficiency.
CUGGLE WHEELS
Gears are single or multi-stage gears with two gears in each stage. Gears are available as straight, bevel and spur gears. A gear stage normally does not shift down more than about 6-7 times. A two-stage gear then has a maximum ratio of around 1:50 and a three-stage gear around 1:350.
