Permanent magnet motors / PM motors

Permanent magnet motors use magnets to generate a magnetic field, unlike an induction motor, where a current is induced in the rotor, which in turn generates the magnetic field. As a result, losses in a PM motor are lower than in an induction motor (asynchronous motor). Lower losses mean that higher power outputs can be achieved from a given motor size.
